Qwertyuiop

This puzzles was originally posted on the NY Times games forum

Given all of the digital ink spilled in discussion of QWERTYIOUP, I thought it would be appropriate to whip up a little game...

Specifically, the questions will have one of the following true:

  1. All of the answer's letters are in the top row of the keyboard
  2. All of the letters are in the home row of the keyboard (ASDFGHJKL)
  3. All of the letters are in the bottom row of the keyboard (ZXCVBNM)
  4. All of the letters are left-hand letters (QWERT, ASDFG, ZXCVB)
  5. All of the letters are right-hand letters (YUIOP, HJKL, NM)
  6. Each consecutive pair of letters in the answer are adjacent on the keyboard (but not the same letter)

There are two answers of each type in the list below. Of course, it would be so easy if I told you which answer went with which rule, but it'd be less fun. Note that answers that fit the last category may (and do in this case) fall into categories 4 and 5. The answers that fit 4 and 5 will only be able to fit 4 and 5. Finally, one of the answers for 3 will also fit 5.

Enjoy!

  1. Capital of the 50th state
  2. Crash-Test Dummies song (3-3-3-3)
  3. High school where Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in a single game (4)
  4. NY College founded by a brewer during the Civil War(6)
  5. Of two states whose capital starts with the full name of a month of the year, this state has the earlier month (6)
  6. One full of bon mots (7)
  7. Producer of The Truman Show (5, 4)
  8. Reels from too much alcohol (8)
  9. Tea bag worth a fortune (2)
  10. Text seen at the end of the credits of Braveheart, Apollo 13, and Leaving Las Vegas (6)
  11. Where to enjoy the sand and not much else (6)
  12. Where you might find a thimble by chance (8)
