Hooked on Henry

This puzzles was originally posted on the NY Times games forum

In honor of Henry Hook's 4th Volume of Cryptic Puzzles (and if you don't think he should be honored, consider how long it takes to generate a variety-style cryptic, and that this is his 4th book of 45 variety cryptics), I give to you a small quiz where the answers are all two word expressions or name starting with HJ (H for Henry, J for Hook).

  1. He jokingly has an orange roof in the movie Blazing Saddles (6, 7)
  2. How Jimi begins a musical question regarding weapons deployment (3, 3)
  3. Heard just before an after-news monologue (5, 6)
  4. Happy, jolly pair of cartoon birds (6 & 6)
  5. His judicious advice: Don't try to live your life in one day (6, 5)
  6. How jocks go over a pole, but without a pole (4, 7)
  7. Holiday jingle, with Christmas (5, 5)
